Dortmund managing director Hans-Joachim Watzke advised any clubs who are interested in the duo to save themselves the cost of a phone call, adding that even a sum of £100m for both Hummels and Gotze would still not force a sale.

Joachim Watzke told Liga Total:

Both Gotze and Hummels played a phenomenal role in Dortmund’s title winning 2010-11 season and have since been strongly linked with a move to a big European club like Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Manchester United.

“And even if they bid €120 million, [Gotze and Hummels] would stay with us, because we don’t want to sell.

“We want to play football, not to open as a bank. We want to make our five million fans happy, we can’t do that by selling players.”

Sir Alex has been a long term admirer of the 23 year old Hummels who has already raked up 12 international appearances for Germany. And with club captain Nemanja Vidic ruled out for the season with an injury, rumors were that the Scotsman would go all out to sign Hummels.

Earlier, Sportsmail had revealed that Ferguson had sent scouts to watch the attacking midfielder four times and that two scouts were despatched to Germany’s recent game against Holland.
